Game Sightings:
Elephant bulls have been seen regularly on the farm. Groups of up to 11 bulls have been recorded together at times. “Classic” the big collared elephant bull has been frequenting the farm and has been seen swimming in the Big Dam on numerous occasions.
I had the pleasure of watching nine elephant bulls swimming and playing in the Big Dam, (much to the disgust of the hippo whose space was so rudely invaded!)
The Rendall’s of no 8 had a fantastic sighting of 5 lions on the week end of the 20th. They were located in the area of chalet 11. From here they moved to Hardies’ Crossing where they spent the rest of the day resting in the shade of an apple leaf tree.
Two sub-adult hyena cubs seem to have taken-up residence on the verandah at no 52. I have seen them there on numerous occasions, resting under the thatch during the heat of the day. I presume that there may be a den nearby.
General game sightings seem to once again have increased. Giraffe are seen regularly (this is due to the knob thorns coming into leaf which is their favourite food). Zebra, waterbuck and kudu’s are also seen regularly. A group of six Kudu bulls is often seen between Yankee Dam and Dave’s crossing.
It is encouraging to see an increase in warthog numbers on the farm again. There is a group of four who really like the clubhouse lawns, although they really do ruin the grass.
Very few leopard sightings were recorded this month.
