Nov 18 to Nov 24 - Week 47 (24  November 2001)

Some excellent elephant sightings this week, with the small breeding herd of app. 20 seen all over the farm. The elephant bulls were in close attendance and there were some really small calves in the herd, this seemed to make the cows a tad over protective.
The big herd of buffalo 200+ mad e their appearance again, coming in from A. Pienaars’ farm and exiting into Ntsiri close to unit 53 and 7.
The bird life is prolific at the moment with Ground Hornbill being seen and heard this week, the Woodland Kingfisher vocalizing their presence, Red Billed Quelea, Egyptian Geese, Knob Billed Ducks, and lots of LBJ’s. The Red Billed Buffalo Weavers and Masked Weavers are nesting in the Fever tree next to the swimming pool.
Kudu was also seen this week, two groups of three and five bulls and the herd of cows was spotted on the entrance road.
Lion was spotted by members from their verandah, the lions were busy having a scrap with the hyaenas. They say the sounds were incredible. There was also an elephant bull close to their unit for much of the morning, as mentioned he was probably seeking some attention.
The first impala lambs were spotted this week.
