Rangers Diary

Nov 11 to Nov 17 - Week 46 (17  November 2001)

The herd of buffalo were on the farm, but seem to have splintered into two groups. This may is possibly through harassment by lion or that the herd split by taking two different routes to the same point.
Spoor of three lionesses was seen in the river in front of unit 16 heading in an easterly direction into Ntsiri. A herd of six giraffe was also seen with one of the cows having a calf in attendance. All the impala ewes seem like they are ready to pop, they should start lambing soon.
Three elephant bulls were seen on the open area in front of the clubhouse. Rhino spoor seen on the northern boundary with Rietvlei, it looked like a lone bull. Snake activity has also increased with lots of signs on the roads and quick glimpses as the snakes slither off the roads.
A tom leopard was spotted on the airstrip. He had caught an impala and pulled it up a tree. There were lots of vultures around, the leopard was very relaxed and spent some time just eyeing out the members in their game drive vehicle.
